Ignore Fake Tax Refunds Email, Says IRB

The Malaysia’s Inland Revenue Board (IRB) confirms that they have not sent any emails bearing the address refunds15@hasil.gov.my, which required taxpayers to fill out their particulars as part of the procedure to qualify for income tax refunds.

The fraudulent email also required taxpayers to input their banking information, attached to fake bank websites based on the taxpayer’s respective bank.

IRB said income tax refunds are only processed based on taxpayers’ information stored in their database.

IRB advised all taxpayers to exercise caution and not respond to the email.

So far, IRB has received 17 phone calls from concerned taxpayers enquiring on the authenticity of the said email.
