RM2000 Fine Or 6-Months Jail If You Stop Your Car After The White Line
After announcing the Black Mamba team just last month, the Malaysian police force are continuing their efforts on ensuring that traffic flows smoothly with a new operation, titled ‘Ops Garisan Putih’.
As the name suggests, ‘Ops Garisan Putih’ is a police operation designed to stop motorists from stopping their vehicles beyond the white line at a traffic stop.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar said under Rule 38 of the Road Traffic Rules (LN166/1959), motorists are not allowed to stop their vehicles beyond the white line, as it will obstruct pedestrian crossings.
“The rules state that a motorist must not cause the vehicle or any part of the vehicle to stop in the crossing area unless he is prevented from moving by circumstances beyond his control or if he must stop to avoid an accident,” he said.
RM2000 fine or six month’s jail term
And to deter motorists from continuing to commit this traffic infraction, motorists who are caught while doing so will be handed severe punishment.
“Any individual who commits this offence can be fined not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisoned for a period not exceeding six months,” said Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar.
The reason police are cracking down on motorists who stop their vehicles beyond the white line is due to the fact that the act may lead to road congestion.
‘Ops Garisan Putih’ is one of six special operations to educate and raise awareness among road users.
