METMalaysia Issues Continuous Rain Warning Until 28 Dec

Parts of Malaysia continue to be ravaged by floods, with the number of people relocated to flood relief centres all across the country reaching 28,000.

Johor and Sabah are the two latest states that were affected by floods. This takes the number of states affected by floods in Malaysia to six, according to reports from Singapore daily CNA.

METMalaysia issued continuous rain advisory

METMalaysia had earlier issued a statement on adverse weather conditions affecting the east coast as well as southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia.  This includes strong winds and thunderstorms bringing heavy rains.

A warning was also issued on continuous rains in the states of Pahang and Johor. All these adverse weather conditions are expected to last until 28 December 2023.

Number of flood evacuees top 28,310

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) official website, Kelantan remains the state with the highest number of evacuees. A total of 17,378 evacuees from 5541 families placed in 89 flood relief centres.

Meanwhile, Terengganu records the second highest number of flood evacuees, with 10,103 evacuees in 113 centres.

Although the number of evacuees in Terengganu is reduced compared to yesterday (Tuesday) evening, with 10,199 evacuees, it doesn’t seem that the floods will stop anytime soon. NADMA has already issued another advisory to warn the people of continuous rains in several districts across three states.

In NADMA’s advisory, they warned that another series of continuous deluge might happen in Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin), and Johor (Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi).
