KTMB Offers Refunds To Passengers Affected By Disruptions

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has announced a round of refunds that passengers can claim if they have been affected by the disruption of the Electric Train Service (ETS) between Kamunting and Bukit Merah on 9 April.

In a recently released statement, KTMB said commuters who were unable to proceed to their destination due to the disruption can email to callcenter@ktmb.com.my for the refund.

It was also mentioned that passengers who bought the Takaful Premium Plan can submit their claims by calling Etiqa Claim Assist at 010-368 7829 or emailing support@goinsure.com.my.

KTMB have said that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the disruption due to the disconnection of its electrical lines. This was also the reason why the captain was unable to communicate to passengers about the disruption.

Commendably, the train crew on duty took it upon themselves to announce the incident to passengers by going from one coach to another as well as via the short messaging system.

“A relief locomotive was deployed but it failed to rescue stranded passengers. The train crew as well as KTMB staff sent to the location helped with the transfer of passengers. The passengers were also given assistance upon arrival at the Bukit Mertajam and Butterworth stations,” said the statement.

With regards to the incident, KTMB said that there was a service disruption on 9 April which occurred at KM79.5 between Kamunting and Bukit Merah at about 5.30pm.

It caused two ETS services to experience a two-hour delay. At 9.15pm, passengers onboard EP9176 were transferred to an ETS relief set. Work to restore the electrical lines was conducted by the Electrification Department.
