Google Wallet Finally Supports Maybank Cards

After much anticipation, Maybank credit and debit card owners can breathe a sigh of relief as Google Wallet has finally added support for Maybank customers. This means that Maybank cards can now be added to Google Wallet for offline payments via NFC.

Google Wallet is a contactless mobile payment platform that first arrived on the shores of Malaysia in November 2022. However, Maybank’s cards were noticeably absent from the list of available payment options. At the time, the app only supported a handful of local participating banks.

According to the list of compatible cards available on the Maybank website, only cards under Visa and Mastercard are compatible with Google Wallet, which means that American Express card holders are being left with the short end of the stick once more.

This long-awaited addition to the Google Wallet service comes alongside a promotional campaign from Maybank. The first transaction on Google Wallet using Maybank cards will receive cashback, though this is capped at RM10 per customer.

The cashback promotion will run until 8 July this year. More information about the campaign’s terms and conditions can be found on its FAQ page.

For more details on how to add a card to the app, check out the guide available on Maybank’s website.
