How To Maximise Your Savings At Matta Fair 2025

by
KL MATTA Fair

The MATTA fair is an occasion every avid traveller looks forward to. A convention hall filled with rows and rows of travel agencies and airlines, each flaunting their own discounts and exclusive promotions, all vying for the attention of the buyer. You

But, with so many tempting offers it might be easy to completely lose the plot and overspend or book a trip you may not actually want. If that sounds like something you’d want to avoid, read on to find out how to actually make the most of your money and unlock some of the best deals at the MATTA fair that most might overlook.

1. Be prepared. Be very prepared.

Walking onto the fairgrounds without doing your due diligence, is like doing your grocery shopping while hungry. You’re craving everything and probably a little disoriented and highly susceptible to impulse purchases (basically a recipe for disaster). Just that this time, instead of a pack of kale chips you’ll probably never eat, it’s a flight to the Maldives smack in the middle of the monsoon season.

So before you even plan your trip to the fair, arm yourself with a gameplan.

  • Do your homework:  Research destinations, airlines, hotels and travel packages. Many agencies release a sneak peek of their upcoming promotions and this might help you consider your budget or even decide which part of the world you would want to travel to.
  • Set a budget (and stick to it!): Decide how much you want to spend. Then take a step back and figure out how much you realistically can spend. Set this as the ceiling for your travel budget and remember to account for flights, accommodations and activities.
  • Be early: While you have your dream vacation wishlist, so does everyone else. If your list happens to contain popular destinations like Japan, Korea or London, be sure to get there as early as possible to secure the best deals.
  • Go cashless: Many agencies offer extra perks, discounts or even cashback if you use selected e-wallets or credit cards. Before you go, check which banks are partnering with MATTA fair to get the best deal.

2. Haggle

This one may come as a surprise to many. Here’s our insider tip: yes you can haggle! Not in the sense where you can get prices slashed by being persistent and

threatening to walk away, but by being tactical and negotiating what is being offered. We find that being nice while you’re at it also always helps.

  • Teamwork makes the dream work: If you’re planning to travel as a group, look at exhibitors who offer all inclusive tour packages and negotiate to get bundle deals or ask if you can get extra perks thrown in for free. As the saying goes: Ask and you shall receive better seats on your next flight.
  • Bring up their competition: Casually name drop a competitor’s name and see if they’re willing to match their deals. Even if they don’t end up doing that, this may prompt them to compare their offerings to prove that it is worth the slightly higher price. Use this added information to help you make your decision.

3. Read the terms and conditions. Like actually, read it

Things that are too good to be true, are often not true at all. These types of deals often come with a fine print that people tend to overlook. Do not make the same mistake! This is how people end up with hidden charges or very limited travel dates. Before you make the plunge, read the fine print and see if there are any restrictions or hidden surcharges or if there is a specification on available dates.

Another thing to take note of is their cancellation policies. Most deals offered would be only for select dates and may not allow any changes to be done once you make your reservation. If you need flexibility, make sure you lookout for packages that offer to reschedule or cancel plans, should the need arise.

4. The final hour

Many people are aware that the final day, or even the final hours at the MATTA fair can bring additional promotions or slashes in prices as exhibitors rush to close deals. This is why many people choose to visit the fairs on the last day. But this tactic is often a double edged sword. While you may get some additional perks, most of the best deals would have been snagged during the first day. This is especially true if you’re looking to travel during peak season or to popular destinations. On the other hand, if you are flexible and willing to plan your trip around the best deals that are available, going on the last hour might just work in your favour.

But wait, what happens if you missed the fair or cannot make it?

What to do if you miss the MATTA fair

Sometimes, things just don’t go the way you plan, so if you find yourself having missed the fair or unable to attend for any reason: DO NOT FRET! Many exhibitors ride the wave of the fair and extend promotions on their own sites for a short period of time, allowing you to book online or directly through their agencies.

1. Follow up immediately

If you collected brochures or took note of travel packages that were available during the fair, you should reach out to the agencies as soon as you can to see if the promotion is still up for grabs or if they can offer similar promotions. Odds are they may still have some empty spots left on tour packages and you might just be able to snag it.

2. Check exhibitors’ socials

Some agencies offer post fair sales/promotions on their own sites and would be shouting out these deals on their socials. If nothing fits your travel needs during the fair, you might just find something that works here!

3. Subscribe for newsletters and alerts

While the MATTA fair is one of the biggest travel fairs in Malaysia, it is not the end of it all if you do not manage to find your perfect holiday package here. Every travel agency offers promotions at different points in the year, you just need to be vigilant.

At the end of the day, the MATTA fair is more than just a convention.Whether you actually walk away with a trip booked, one this is for sure: It’s a yearly occasion that all travelers look forward to and the travel bug bites hard here.

As you weave through the crowd you are likely to stumble upon cultural performances, art exhibitions and even photobooths. Some exhibitors go the extra mile and hand out samples of local delicacies —giving you a literal taste of your next adventure. The MATTA Fair is truly a full blown event that is eagerly anticipated.
