Amazing Weekend Getaways For This Chinese New Year
Table of Contents
If there is one thing we can say about Malaysians, it is that we love our holidays. We are just fresh off the December 2023 holiday season, and yet another big holiday is just around the corner; that being Chinese New Year. While many will be taking the time to visit and celebrate with family, others might already be planning for another relaxing long weekend.
While this short break might not be able to match up with the big vacations that you might have had over the year-end holiday season, a relaxing, weekend getaway is still a welcome break.
Why not check out the abundance of premier staycation spots that you can find in and around the Klang Valley. Here is a list of a few amazing staycation spots that are perfect for a short escape.
The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Let’s start off with something fancy. The Majestic Hotel is a fantastic getaway situated near the heart of the capital. This is by no means the cheapest option on this list, but if you are willing to fork out a little extra per night, you will be greeted with the grandeur of colonial-era elegance.
The Majestic Hotel offers a variety of luxurious rooms and suites, each made to provide an air of sophistication and comfort. The hotel also allows you to indulge in delectable culinary experiences at its renowned restaurants, and pamper yourself with rejuvenating spa treatments. It is truly a prime locale for those seeking to just relax and destress.

These premier suites are an ideal abode and feature spacious living and dining areas as well as a modern kitchen, complete with both washing machine and tumble dryer.
The property has pool and garden views, and is just 600 metres from Petronas Twin Towers, making it a fantastic vacation home for avid shoppers. The apartment provides a rooftop pool with a pool bar, as well as spa facilities. Plus, you get an unobstructed view of the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).

Micro rooms are designed with space efficiency in mind. Enter MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur, a cozy little social hotel located in Chow Kit KL that offers minimalist, space-efficient rooms that have everything you need and nothing more.
Feeling peckish? MoMo’s has got you covered with delectable Japanese cuisines and carefully curated street food. Its location means that you are also not far from Chow Kit Market, Malaysia’s largest wet market, as well as some of the top-tier eateries you can find in KL.

Padi Box, Sekinchan
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live on a farm, living a relaxing life surrounded by paddy fields?
Well, the Padi Box in Sekinchan offers as close to the Malaysian farm life experience as any while also maintaining many comforts you can find in any great city resort. Situated just 1.5 hours away from KL, the Padi Box allows visitors to take in amazing views and become one with nature.
Made from recycled candy-hued freight containers, this farm-like retreat also offers visitors a number of unique activities, including learning the true rice farming process, eagle feeding, and bicycle rides through padi trails.

The Sticks, Kuala Kubu Bharu
Ever wanted to try out camping, but you are not confident in your outdoorsmanship abilities? Well, why not hit up a great glamping place instead!
The Sticks at Kuala Kubu Bharu is just a 70-minute drive away from KL and offers visitors an “off the grid” experience, tucked neatly away in the rainforest. How off grid is this? Well, to even get there you will need to either cross a suspension bridge or take a 4WD.
This is truly the ultimate nature retreat where you can swim in streams, trek through the jungles, or just chill indoors, surrounded by the lush greenery. The Sticks was one of our big recommendations for staycations in 2023, and it still retains its spot as a must-try experience.
Address: Lot 213 Jalan KKB – Fraser’s Hill, Kuala Kubu Bharu
Price Range: RM400 – RM1,100

Beacon Resort, Hulu Selangor
The Beacon Resort looks rather unusual compared to many other staycation locales in the Klang Valley area, but it certainly offers quite a unique getaway. This place is not just a nature retreat, it is also a centre for wellness and healing.
Situated just 80km away from KL, a stay at Beacon Resort includes a whole team of medical professionals, nutritionists, as well as many health and wellness activities to partake in. Each guest will receive a personalised lifestyle transformation program to zoom in and recondition your diet, physical activities and the control of metabolic disorders.

Tiarasa Escapes, Janda Baik
This one really puts the glamorous in glamping. Tiarasa Escapes offers visitors a rather luxurious camping experience with its open, safari-style tents. We are cheating a little bit, as this retreat is technically in Pahang, but in reality, it is just opposite Genting Highlands.
Situated only 45 minutes from the heart of KL, the tented villas are generously apportioned with glass sliding doors leading onto an outdoor deck. They are furnished with cozy king-sized beds and all have en-suite bathrooms of “classic colonial nostalgia”.
Enjoy ranger-led nature walks designed to view some of the diverse and unique wildlife that the Malaysian forests have to offer before ending the day by a cozy bonfire-lit barbeque. The only downside is that this is certainly one of the more high-end (expensive) options you could go for, but it is a perfect one if you are willing to splurge with family and loved ones.
Address: Persiaran Enderong, Kampung Janda Baik, 28750 Bentong
Price Range: RM900 – RM3,000

Glamz at Genting
Speaking of Genting Highlands, Glamz at Genting is your one-stop retreat for those looking to escape the heat for an affordable price. Once again, technically not in Selangor, but Genting is so easily reached from KL that it might as well be. The location itself is a glamping-style lodge located less than half an hour away from Genting Highlands.
The dome-like structures that visitors can stay in offer an interesting experience that can feel almost alien. You could even get your own private jacuzzi if you are willing to fork up a little extra. This is a great place to get away from the sun and enjoy the fresh mountain air. If you want, you could even walk up to Genting Highlands resort for a couple of hours to enjoy the shopping, eateries, and theme parks.
Address: 1, Jln Meranti, 69000 Genting Highlands
Price Range: RM365+
