Up To 15% Pay Increase For Civil Servants Effective Dec 1
The prime minister announced this at the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam ke-19 today in Putrajaya.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the new civil service salary rules will take effect from December 1, 2024. This new salary ruling is also known as Public Service Remuneration System Study (SSPA).
Details of the new pay increase
Under the new SSPA, the top management of the civil service will receive a total wage hike of 7%. Meanwhile, civil servants in the upper management such as managers and those who fall under the professional category will see a 15% pay increase in total.
The increments will be staggered into two phases. The first phase will see the civil servants receive the first half of the increment percentage reflected in their salaries starting December 1 this year. The second phase to include the remainder of the increment will be implemented on January 1, 2026.
SSPA to replace the Malaysian Remuneration System
Anwar added that the SSPA was based on three core reforms. The main reforms are centered on increasing the productivity and efficiency of the civil service.
The reform is also aimed at increasing the readiness of civil servants to effect change and boost the country’s competitiveness.
Earlier this year, the prime minister had announced the salary increase for Malaysia’s 1.3 million civil servants. The Public Service Department had also previously announced that civil servants will be able to check and calculate their salary increment after the prime minister’s announcement on August 16, 2024.
