Government Increases University Student Flight Ticket Subsidy To RM400

At a FLYSiswa event yesterday, the government announced that they will be increasing the flight ticket subsidy for tertiary level students from RM300 to RM400.

The announcement was made yesterday, at the Madani FLYsiswa and Student Transportation carnival at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam.

The event was graced with the presence of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Transportation Minister, Anthony Loke.

In his speech, Anthony Loke stated that combined with additional state support amounting to RM600, Sabah and Sarawak students will now receive RM1000 annually to purchase flight tickets.

The FLYsiswa initiative was first introduced in 2023, in lieu of complaints made by students from Sabah and Sarawak saying that their flight back to their hometown is too expensive, especially during festive seasons.flight ticket subsidy increase

According to the FLYsiswa website, the initiative is open to any students in public universities, polytechnics, community colleges registered under the Ministry of Higher education, Teachers’ Institution and Matriculation Colleges, provided that they are eligible for it based on their address.

FLYsiswa to benefit 60,000 students

Anthony Loke also stated in his speech that the FLYsiswa initiative is estimated to 60,000 students nationwide. And he also stated that out of 50,000 students eligible this year, 35,000 have already redeemed their subsidies.

The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and was also attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
