Govt Pensioners To Get 2% Increment, Adjusted To New Salary Scheme
It’s official, the two per cent annual pension increments enjoyed by retirees would be maintained in the form of a special aid. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed this at a press conference after the Cabinet decision before the Christmas break.
The decision to continue this Special Appreciation for Pensioners (PKKP) initiative was to ensure the pensioners welfare in the face of rising living costs.
900,000 government pensioners to receive this increase
Since the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) was implemented on December 1, pensioners have been waiting for the government to make an official announcement.
They have been waiting to see if their pensions will be adjusted to the new SSPA salary scheme. The prime minister added that the new SSPA includes the adjustment of pensions for retirees and derivative pension recipients.
The Public Services Department (JPA) shared the good news on their socials. They also provided information regarding pensioners who are eligible for this increment.
Increases to take place in phases until January 2026
The new percentage adjustment is expected to take place in phases from December 1, 2024 until January 1, 2026. Retirees and derivative pension recipients will be receiving pension adjustments with the same percentage increments as active civil servants.
Earlier this year, the prime minister had announced one of the biggest pay hike for civil servants. This increase amounted to 15% increment for some ranks. The details of the civil servants salary increase were released with the launch of the SSPA in August 2024.
