After only a bit over a month of public beta testing, GXBank Berhad has officially launched the GXBank App for all Malaysians at a launch event yesterday.
The launch event was officiated by the Chairperson of the GXBank Board of Directors, Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan and GXBank’s CEO, Pei Si Lai.
The event was also attended by other finance luminaries such as YBhg. Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, Secretary General of Treasury at the Ministry of Finance and Mr Hsieh Fu Hua, Chairman of GXS.
50% of the app users have created ‘Pockets’ in their accounts
During the event, Pei Si shared that during the public beta testing session, almost 50% of the GX Bank app’s users created “Pockets”, GXBank’s feature that allowed users to create wallets in their accounts for specific purposes.
“Emergencies, holidays and investments are the top three reasons our customers are saving for. Following the months of testing amongst GXBank internal staff, shareholders, partners and selected Malaysians, we feel optimistic and encouraged to now expand to the rest of Malaysia,” said Pei Si.
The introduction of “pockets” is in line with one of GXBank’s goals, that is to inculcate the saving culture among Malaysians, especially among the younger generation.
During the launch event, Datuk Zaiton also thanked Bank Negara Malaysia for their support and guidance.
“The tenacity of many of these homegrown brands inspire us as we have built the bank with Malaysia in mind – making banking seamless, convenient and accessible to all.”
“As Malaysia’s digital bank, we look forward to continued partnerships to realise our vision to build a financially resilient and inclusive nation,” said Zaiton.
GX Card to be launched
Moving forward, GXBank will be introducing new features, which includes the GX Card; GXBank’s own debit card.
The GX Card is partnered with Mastercard, and will offer rewards such as unlimited 1% cashback for every online and offline spend with the card, zero markups or fees on foreign transactions, RM1 fee waiver when used at 10,000+ MEPS ATM nationwide, and 1.5x GrabRewards points when users spend at Jaya Grocer.
Pei Si also expressed her excitement for the launch of GX Bank’s debit card, saying that it’s one of the only ways to physically connect with GXBank’s Users.
“As a digital bank, we are born of tech with no physical branches. This makes our GX Card very special to us as it is currently the only physical manifestation of GXBank that customers can proudly keep in their pockets.”
