Madani Government Cabinet Reshuffle; Who’s In And Who’s Out?
Table of Contents
After a year in power, it’s safe to say that the court of public opinion hasn’t been kind to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Madani government.
Trust in the government has suffered thanks to various issues such as concerns over the economic direction of Malaysia, the high inflation rate, and a lack of significant reforms.
So in an effort to rebuild the people’s trust in the Madani government, Anwar announced a major cabinet reshuffle to help shake things up, and hopefully affect some real changes.
Return of old favourites, plus some new faces
The changes made to Anwar’s cabinet include the return of former ministers to their old haunting grounds, the movement of prominent ministers, the splitting of existing ministries and some new faces.
For the returning of old favourites, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Gobind Singh Deo are returning to the post of Health Minister and the Communications and Digital Ministry respectively.
Meanwhile, UMNO’s deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who is currently holding the Defence Minister post, has been moved to the Foreign Ministry, with another UMNO mainstay, Datuk Seri Mohamad Khalid Nordin set to take his place.
There are some new faces set to make their debuts in Anwar’s cabinet as well, such as the surprise nomination of the current Employees Provident Fund (EPF) CEO, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan as the newly created Finance Minister II post.
