Malaysia Airlines, Firefly To Reduce Flights Until December
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced that it will cut frequencies on some destinations in the short term. This will affect three of its carriers – Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal.
MAG is the parent company operating these three airlines. According to MAG, the reduction of flights between now to December 2024 is to execute corrective measures.
Address root cause of operational difficulties
The flight reduction is to address operational difficulties including supply chain constraints, manpower challenges, and other external factors
“This is to ensure the long-term reliability of our fleet and robustness of our operations and enhance our ability to ensure our customers on Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal services face minimal disruptions and have the best experience possible flying with us,” said its managing director Izham Ismail in a statement.
“MAG has also been affected by the delayed deliveries of new aircraft this year, leading to less aircraft being made available for operations than planned,” he added.
There have been reported flight delays affecting these airlines in recent weeks. Flights by MAG subsidiaries have had to turn back or make an emergency stop.
13 international routes affected
According to media reports, 13 international routes will see reduced flights weekly. The number of reduced flights range from 1 to 5 flights weekly. They include Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Denpasar, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Jeddah, Medan Kualanamu, Mumbai, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Incheon, Shanghai Pu Dong, Singapore, Tokyo-Narita and Yangon from Kuala Lumpur, NST reports.
