All Malaysian Airlines Passengers Can Now Enjoy Free WiFi
Malaysian Airlines is leading the way when it comes to the inflight WiFi battle. It was announced that from 1 November 2023 onwards, all passengers travelling with Malaysia Airlines, regardless of cabin class or loyalty status, will have access to unlimited and free internet connectivity in-flight.
This unlimited WiFi feature was first introduced to just six of the airlines’ Airbus A350s and 14 Airbus A330s. However, Malaysia Airlines has now confirmed that gratis WiFi is also coming to select single-aisle aircraft in the not-too-distant future via a staged rollout.
This is quite the difference compared to airlines such as Singapore Airlines, which implemented free WiFi for members of its KrisFlyer program earlier this year, as well as Emirates and Etihad, both of which currently provide free messaging for frequent flyers only.
According to reporting by the Executive Traveller, Malaysia Aviation Group CEO Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi had said that the carrier is delighted to extend its complimentary WiFi offering to passengers across all travel class; making Malaysia Airlines one of the first airlines to enable such convenience.
Just six months ago, Malaysia Airlines gifted its business class travellers and Enrich Platinum status holders with free access to the internet in the skies; though this was capped at a maximum of 100MB per passenger.
At the time, Malaysia Airlines had told the Executive Traveller that the move was the first phase of a stage rollout, as more and more of the carrier’s fleet were fitted with satellite-powered WiFI service. The next step was to grant Gold Enrich members WiFi access, but it appears that this plan was scrapped in favour of free access for all.
