Malaysian Economy Grew 5.6% In Q1
The Malaysia economy grew by 5.6% in the first quarter of 2017, revealed Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
Speaking during a media briefing, BNM Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim said growth was driven by strong consumption and investment.
Higher growth in the first three months were recorded in services (5.8%), manufacturing (5.6%), mining (1.6%), agriculture (8.3%) and construction (6.5%).
Muhammad said headline inflation, which averaged 4.3%, was expected to decrease from the second quarter onwards. The current account remained in surplus due to a lower goods surplus and larger services deficit.
