Minister: Education Budget Will Not Be Cut

The nation’s education budget will not be cut in the upcoming tabling of Budget 2019. At least as far as Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik is concerned.

Maszlee has said that his ministry has submitted its request to the finance ministry. With the intention that the funds be used to restore dilapidated schools; particularly those in Sabah and Sarawak. He is also looking to increase funding for the teaching of technical and vocational skills.

A special allocation for teachers in Selangor and Johor is also on the cards. With the minister saying that schools in the states are having trouble attracting teachers due to the high cost of living. Maszlee says that this was causing teachers from other states to be reluctant to move to the two states.
