Traffic Expected To Skyrocket For This Coming State Elections
PLUS Malaysia Bhd currently predicts that traffic may increase to 1.9 million vehicles per day on the North-South Expressway (NSE) on Friday and Saturday (11 & 12 August), in conjunction with the state elections.
In a recent statement, the highway operator said that is working on improving and readying highway operations so that the public can enjoy a smooth and comfortable journey, wherever they may be headed to over the coming weekend. This includes facilities at toll plazas and rest and service areas (R&R), to accommodate the traffic surge on the highway.
PLUS senior general manager of operations Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz has also advised those who plan to return to their hometowns, travellers who are headed to their polling stations, and those heading towards the Klang Valley, to plan their journey accordingly ahead of time.
“Please also be prepared to face longer travelling time due to the increase in traffic as compared to normal days. PLUS will also temporarily stop all highway maintenance, upgrading and construction works that require lane closures from Friday to Sunday, except for emergency works such as accident clearance, critical or emergency repair work,” Mohd Yusuf said.
PLUS also mentioned that they will ensure that all public facilities such as restrooms, suraus and petrol stations at the R&R and lay-bys operate 24 hours a day.
Polling for the state elections will be held in Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan on Saturday.
