RHB Bank, PayNet Launch DuitNow QR Soundbox To Combat Fraud

RHB Bank (RHB) has collaborated with Payments Network Malaysia (“PayNet”) to launch the DuitNow QR (DNQR) Soundbox.  It comes with a keypad feature, and marks a new landmark in their efforts to combat financial fraud.

The new device, called the DNQR Soundbox, is an innovative device supporting both static and dynamic QR payments. It is designed for seamless transactions, reducing human error, and enhancing operational efficiency.

How the DNQR Soundbox works

Basically, what the DNQR Soundbox does is it notifies the merchant whenever a transaction is made. It does this by giving the merchant voice alerts, which also notifies the merchant of the amount paid.

The new DNQR Soundbox comes equipped with an integrated calculator function, which accelerates payment processing.

Dato’ Fad’l Mohamed, Managing Director, Group Wholesale Banking of RHB Banking Group, emphasised,

“The Dynamic DNQR Soundbox exemplifies our commitment to safeguarding merchants and consumers in an increasingly digital landscape. Real-time voice and visual alerts provide reassurance and security, effectively mitigating risks associated with cashless transactions,” he highlighted.

DNQR Soundbox to help combat QR fraud

The DNQR Soundbox was first introduced in December 2023, as a way to safeguard QR transactions from fraud by way of voice and display notifications upon payment receipt.

Since its inception, RHB has successfully deployed nearly 4,000 DNQR merchants, of which 5,000 touchpoints were equipped with a DNQR Soundbox.

The announcement of the new DNQR Soundbox with a keypad feature also aligns with Bank Negara Malaysia’s fraud prevention initiatives.
