Amount Of Households With Internet Access Increased By 15.6% Last Year

The Statistics Department revealed the total amount of households accessing the internet in Malaysia have risen by 15.6%, compared to 2015.

The department’s Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the total percentage of households with internet access was at 85.7% last year.

Households accessing the internet via computers and mobile phones rose to 74.1% and 98.1% respectively compared to 67.6% and 97.9% in 2015.

Meanwhile, internet users aged above 15-years-old increased to 80.1% last year compared to 71.1% in 2015.

He added 86.3% were using the internet for social media, such Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, followed by downloading pictures, films, videos, music, games and playing games (81.2%), researching information on goods and services (80.4%), downloading software and applications (74.5%), internet banking (37.6%) and purchasing or ordering goods and services (23.2%).
