The 22nd FIFA World Cup is underway for the first time in the Arab world, with this year’s iteration hosted by Qatar from the 20 November to 18 December 2022. At 28 days, it will be the shortest tournament of its kind ever held.

As everyone knows, the quality of a football team is intrinsically linked to the value of the players (at least that’s what professional leagues want us to believe). So based on this metric, who stands the best chance of coming out on top? Let’s find out. 

As a clarification, we will be looking at the transfer market value and determining the value of the squad as a whole. Another clarification that has to be made is that at the time of writing, almost every team participating in the World Cup hasn’t announced their squads yet, we’re going to be looking at the last squad they used instead.
